Today's Field Trip

So I made it to the end of the road and boy was it a windy and long....long....long road. When I reached the end it was like heaven. I had finally reached the end.

I am actually in the recycling plant for our area......

So I get out of the car, gather the kids and we’re off.... I felt like a little girl walking through the museum. It was the best field trip ever. I wanted to be the first in line. I wanted to go inside the room and get started NOW!!!! Okay so, you may think “what a loony she is “. But guess what? I am in a place where they are taking care of my home (earth) and I appreciate that. Be it for business or not, it protects my home (earth).

Alright, we made it in, the kids are in their seats. Guess where I sat??? The very first chair! I am telling you this was so much fun. I was 8 years today for about 2 hours.

So the gentleman started to explain all the three R's. He went off on the glass, plastic and metal and the ton of waste ( 5 pounds of waste per day per person) that each person produces. That is a lot of garbage per person and only one of 5 bottles of water gets to the recycling plant. He said that the only way to let others know (the companies that produce the products) is by you and I, the consumer buying products that are made of recycled materials. Mind you I know all of this by heart and the gentleman giving us the tour (it was a TV tour, I wasn't allowed in the real line. Due to insurance purposes of course.... I said I would sign a waiver just so that I could go in but it was a no go). Any who, I think he couldn’t wait for me to leave. I was asking a question every minute but hey, this is my purpose. I have to get as much info as possible. Anyway, all in all the purpose for this field trip was for the kids to learn more about recycling and they did and they had fun doing it. So did I. I am very grateful to Waste Management in Pembroke Pines for their hospitality and Shiraz for the wonderful tour.

If you are interested in this tour contact Waste Management and ask for
Shiraz Kashar 954-520-2022 and tell him that Vintage Mom sent you. He even gave us a nice souvenir. It was a cute garbage bin for my desk. So continue in helping mother earth and let’s have a clean, full of beauty and fresh air.... productive week!
